The following kit list is by no means exhaustive and will probably be updated on occasions, up until the LEJOG itself. I think the only thing to bear in mind is, the less you have to carry the better, but ensuring you don't compromise safety and what small comforts may be available to the long distance walker? Unfortunately the list is in no particular order, I've just included items as and when I thought of them. Items contained within the list are only suggestions? After reading various articles that refer to long distance walking and carrying a rucksack; as a rule of thumb it is suggested, at an extreme, not to carry any more than a third of your own body weight. In my case weighing in at 182 lb. I wouldn't want to carry any more than 60 lb. in my rucksack. Obviously, if you can, it would be best to carry less, as long as you have everything to survive, maintain some minimal comforts, and don't compromise on your safety items. As mentioned, the list is not exhaustive and what you take really depends on what you can carry, based loosely around the One Third rule. Taking the advice of a veteran trekker (thanks George, from New Zealand), and to enjoy the walk without feeling too burdened, I will be looking to carry somewhere between 30 to 40lb maximum.
